Everything you need to know about “Fallout Season 2 is right here.
“Fallout” Season 2 is officially coming out of the Vault. Prime Video greenlit Season 2 just less than a week after the Emmy-nominated video game-based series by Jonathan Nolan premiered on Amazon. Now, filming for Season 2 is complete, and we officially have a December 17, 2025 release date.
We also have some trailers to break down! The first teaser confirmed that we’re heading to New Vegas, but later full trailers revealed much more about this desert city in the Mojave Wasteland.
So let’s dive deep into everything about “Fallout” Season 2, including release date, trailers, casting announcements, plot speculations, and more.
Release Date
“Fallout” Season 2 will officially premiere on Prime Video on December 17, 2025. The release date was announced during the Gamescom Opening Night Live livestream, where Prime Video shared a new teaser trailer for the upcoming season along with the release date.
Beyond Season 2, show star Aaron Moten has said the series could run for “five, six seasons.”
At Liverpool Comic-Con, Moten stated, “When I signed on to do this series, we had a starting point, and they also gave me an ending point. That ending point hasn’t changed, but it’s the type of ending that fits a Season 5, Season 6. We’ve always known we’d take our time with the character development.”
We’re guaranteed at least a Season 3 because Amazon renewed “Fallout” for a third season when they released the first Season 2 teaser.
Trailer
We officially have some “Fallout” Season 2 trailers. The first trailer doesn’t give away much, but it confirms once and for all that we are heading to New Vegas.
The Gamescom trailer gives us a lot to digest. In the 2-minute, 43-second trailer, we get more insight into The Ghoul (Walton Goggins)’s past, including a meeting at the Lucky 38 casino with Justin Theroux’s Mr. House and Hollywood star Howard Cooper. We also see the first glimpse of Caesar’s Legion, a new faction for the show that became famous in Fallout: New Vegas.
Cast & Characters
Prime Video’s Season 2 announcement confirmed the return of Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins as Lucy, Maximus, and The Ghoul aka Cooper Howard.
Additionally, there are some returning cast members we can expect.
Here’s everyone expected to appear in “Fallout” Season 2, including confirmed cast. In an interview with Variety, Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke said, “We are committed to our beloved characters’ journey,” so expect plenty of familiar faces.
At least one new face will join the Season 2 cast. Macaulay Culkin reportedly joined as a “mad genius-type character.” This is a reveal we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on in upcoming episodes.
“Fallout” Season 2 Cast:
- Ella Purnell as Lucy: One of the three main characters, Lucy is an optimistic Vault dweller whose world is upended by Season 1 events. She is currently with The Ghoul, tracking her father Hank.
- Aaron Moten as Maximus: Another main character, Maximus was a young, eager member of the Brotherhood of Steel before Season 1 events. He’s now a knight in the Brotherhood but not a zealot. He’s a potential romantic interest for Lucy.
- Walton Goggins as The Ghoul: The third main character, The Ghoul is a ruthless bounty hunter with a mysterious past; he was once Cooper Howard. He’s searching for his wife Barb, who worked for Vault-Tec before the nuclear apocalypse, and helps Lucy find her father Hank.
- Kyle MacLachlan as Hank: A pre-apocalypse former Vault-Tec employee, Hank was installed as Overseer of Vault 33 before being kidnapped by Moldaver in Season 1. He’s the father of Lucy and Norm.
- Moises Arias as Norm: Hank’s son and Lucy’s brother, Norm uncovers a deep conspiracy across Vaults 33 and 32 during Season 1.
- Sarita Choudhury as Lee Moldaver: Kidnapper of Hank and member of the New California Republic. She appears dead at the end of Season 1, but it’s not confirmed, and she may appear in flashbacks even if Season 2 confirms her death.
- Frances Turner as Barb Howard: A Vault-Tec executive and Cooper Howard’s wife. Barb is not who she seems by the end of Season 1. Presumably, she survived the nuclear war before the show.
- Justin Theroux as Mr. House: Owner of Lucky 38 Casino in New Vegas.
- Macaulay Culkin in an unknown role: Culkin reportedly joins as a “mad genius-type character.”
“Fallout” Season 2 Casting Rumors
In addition to the expected cast above, more casting rumors are circulating. In an interview with IGN, Jonathan Nolan confirmed that Aaron Paul expressed serious interest in joining Season 2. Time will tell if the former Breaking Bad and Westworld star’s wish comes true.
Additionally, industry insider The InSneider said Kumali Nanjiani will join the Season 2 “Fallout” cast as “a high-ranking officer within the Brotherhood of Steel.”
Plot & Story Speculations
Spoilers ahead for “Fallout” Seasons 1 and 2, as well as the “Fallout” video game series.
For now, we know Lucy and The Ghoul are heading toward New Vegas, but little else is confirmed.
However, we know some locations were at least partially shot in California, so expect a realistic, harsh wasteland if leaked North Hollywood set photos are any indication.
The Ghoul and Lucy’s end goals are still up for educated guesses. We don’t know how quickly, or even if, they achieve those goals in Season 2.
But their relationship will have a major impact on the show in Season 2 and beyond. At a press junket for Sweetpea, Ella Purnell, who plays Lucy, said, “Because we leave Lucy in such a sensitive, unprecedented place, she could go anywhere, and I wouldn’t be surprised.”
She also said that if Lucy remains relatively optimistic…
